- Find each category's average (for example, all homework scores averaged together).
- Multiply each average by its weight: homework 92 × 20 = 1,840.
- Add the products for every graded category.
- Divide by the total weight of those categories.
Dividing by the graded weight, not by 100, is what makes mid-semester grades accurate. If only homework (92, 20%) and one test (75, 35%) are in, your grade is (1,840 + 2,625) ÷ 55 = 81.2%, not 44.7%.

Questions students ask
How do you calculate a weighted grade?
Multiply each category average by its weight, add the results, and divide by the sum of the weights. Homework 92 at 20%, quizzes 81 at 30% and tests 75 at 50% give (18.4 + 24.3 + 37.5) ÷ 100 = 80.2%.
What if my categories only add up to 70%?
Then 30% of the course has not been graded yet. The calculator divides by 70 to give your current grade, and shows what you would need on the remaining 30% to reach your target.
How does the syllabus reader work?
You paste the grading section of your syllabus and an AI model (via Vercel AI Gateway) pulls out the category names and percentages. It only fills in the weights; you type your own scores. Always compare the result with your syllabus.
Is the pasted syllabus stored?
No. The text is sent once to extract the weights and is not saved by GradeWise. Do not paste personal information.
Can I enter a category score as points?
Yes. Type it as a fraction like 172/200 and it is converted to 86%.
