The test grade formula
Each question on a 20-question test is worth 5 percentage points; on a 25-question test, 4; on a 50-question test, 2. That is why missing a single question on a short quiz can drop you a whole letter.

Questions students ask
How do I calculate my test grade?
Subtract the number wrong from the total to get the number right, divide by the total, and multiply by 100. Missing 4 out of 25 questions gives 21 ÷ 25 = 84%.
What if questions are worth different points?
Switch to "Points" mode and enter the points you lost and the total points on the test. A 60-point test where you lost 7 points is 53 ÷ 60 = 88.3%.
How many can I miss and still get an A?
On a 10-point scale you need 90% for an A-. On a 20-question test that means missing at most 2; on 25 questions, at most 2 (23/25 = 92%, 22/25 = 88%). The chart below shows the cutoff for your test.
