Why GPA moves in steps
Grade points are attached to letters, not percentages, so the GPA jumps at each cutoff: 82.9% is a B- (2.7) but 83% is a B (3.0). If you are close to a cutoff, it can be worth asking how your teacher rounds. For a whole semester, the GPA calculator averages every course by credits. Why is 89% only a 3.3?
GPA uses letter bands, not a continuous scale. 87–89% is a B+ (3.3) regardless of where you land in the band. Many teachers round 89.5 up to 90 (A-, 3.7), so rounding rules matter.
