Grade Calculator
Type in your scores and see your current class grade and letter as you go. Use points if your teacher totals points, or percent and weight if the syllabus lists category weights.
Your scores
Why the weights matter more than the scores
Same student, same scores: 95 on homework, 84 on quizzes, 68 on tests. Drag how much tests count and watch the class grade move. This is why two classmates with similar scores can end up a full letter apart in different classes.
The rule underneath: your grade is a weighted average, so a category's pull on the result equals its weight. Raising your weakest, heaviest category is almost always the fastest way to raise the grade. How your grade is calculated
Points-based classes
Add every point you earned and divide by every point possible. A 46/50 homework set, a 17/20 quiz and a 78/100 midterm total 141 of 170 points, or 82.9%. Big assignments count more simply because they carry more points.
Weighted classes
Each category has a share of the grade listed in the syllabus. Multiply each category average by its weight, add those up, and divide by the total weight graded so far. With homework 94 (20%), quizzes 85 (20%) and a midterm of 78 (30%), the grade is (94×20 + 85×20 + 78×30) ÷ 70 = 84.6%. For a full category breakdown, use the weighted grade calculator.
Turning the percent into a letter
GradeWise uses the common US scale: 90–100 A, 80–89 B, 70–79 C, 60–69 D, below 60 F, with plus and minus at the top and bottom three points of each band. Some schools use a 7-point scale or no minus grades, so check your handbook. The full table is on the GPA scale chart.
Questions students ask
How do I calculate my grade?
Add up the points you earned and divide by the points possible, then multiply by 100. If your teacher weights categories (for example tests 50%, homework 20%), multiply each category average by its weight, add them, and divide by the total weight you have so far.
Can I enter scores as fractions?
Yes. In percent mode you can type 18/20, 90% or just 90 and GradeWise converts it. In points mode you type points earned and points possible separately.
What if my weights do not add up to 100%?
That is normal mid-semester, because some categories (like the final) have not happened yet. The calculator divides by the weight you entered, which gives your current grade on the work completed so far.
What letter grade is an 89.5?
On the standard 10-point scale an 89.5 is a B+, but many teachers round to the nearest whole number, which would make it a 90, an A-. Check your syllabus for the rounding rule.
